The spectacular beauty of the Romanian national costume sparked the admiration of many foreigners on our land.

Aquarelles by Carol Szathmari and Amedeo Preziosi, H. Trenck and Volkers’s paintings, lithographs by Raffet, Charles Doussault and Bouquet reproduced the shapes, colors, and richness of Romanian folk costumes, over time becoming true ethnographic documents.

Most famous Romanian painters, only to name a few: Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu, George Tatarescu, were fascinated by the personality and the attire of the peasant women, brilliantly capturing the whole mystery and sensuality of the Romanian women.

Her Majesty Queen Mary (Queen of Romania, Princess of Edinburgh, Saxe – Coburg and Gotha) had a strong admiration and bond with the Romanian traditional costume, becoming its brilliant ambassador.
